The best tennis tips and predictions today
Here are the tips we recommend weighing up this Friday, taking advantage of the latest odds from bookmaker Betfred:
Mensik beats de Minaur 1/1
De Minaur has won both games in Vienna so far, but hasn’t been particularly impressive. Of course it was solid to win the way he did, but he’s still beatable. We’re still a little unsure where his hips are.
It looks good, but there’s a good chance it’ll still cause a few minor problems here and there.
Mensik has the profile of a player who is outstanding in the hall. He has a huge serve that is pretty reliable and plays pretty well behind it, especially with a forehand as strong as his.
He’s somewhat similar to Jack Draper, who dismantled de Minaur at the US Open, which is why we think Mensik could do it again.
De Minaur showed some vulnerability against Struff and Cobolli and we believe Mensik is a better player than both, especially on indoor courts.
Of course, this pick depends on Mensik having a great serving day, which might not be the case, but if he does, we like his chances. The odds are definitely tempting enough to justify this choice, so we went for it.
Fils beats Tsitsipas 1/1
Based on recent performance, this is a pretty easy choice. Tsitsipas is a good indoor player and has been for most of his career, but recently he has become very unreliable. If there’s a top name prone to surprises, it’s him, and Fils is more than capable of pulling it off.
As a French player, Fils excels indoors, and with his forehand and serve, it’s easy to see why. He has all the skills needed to perform well and he has played enough on indoor courts to have a great chance here.
We support this partly because the odds are just too good to ignore, and partly because the matchup seems to favor Fils.
Tsitsipas has a glaring weakness on the backhand side and the French player will certainly look to exploit it. After all, Fils has already beaten him once indoors, last year in Antwerp.
Fils has only improved since then, while Tsitsipas may have regressed even further. This is a given – take Fils to win the match.
