PGA Tour and DP World player Espen Kofstad announced his surprise retirement from the game today at just 37 years old.
Kofstad turned pro in 2011 and eventually made his PGA Tour debut at the Barbasol Championship in 2022.
The Norwegian took part in several DP World Tour events throughout his career, but was never able to win a tournament.
However, he won two titles on the Challenges Tour.
Kofstad’s first win came at the Double Tree by Hilton Acaya Open in 2012 and soon after he added another at the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
It was a season that secured him playing privileges on the European Tour, now the DP World Tour, for 2013.
Three years later, Kofstad achieved one of his greatest career achievements when he represented his country at the 2016 Olympics.
He finished T43 in Rio.
Kofstad continued to shuttle between European circuits, but made it onto the PGA Tour in two co-sanctioned events.
He also performed admirably in the US, finishing 13th in the Barbasol and 16th in the Barracuda.
Kofstad was allowed to compete in both tournaments again this season, but missed the cut and finished in 60th place.
He also missed three straight cuts on the DP World Tour and then withdrew from the Open de Espana last month.
Kofstad took to his social media channels today to confirm his retirement from football.
He is currently ranked 1,103rd worldwide.
“Thank you tournament golf for everything,” he wrote.
“This seems like the right time to move on and look for something new.”
“Thank you to everyone who helped me along this path!”
