Spin Cycle: Meals on Wheels

Jonny Long

Spin cycle is Escape Collective’s news digest published every Monday and Friday. You can read it on this website (of course) or have it delivered straight to your inbox.

Hello!

Welcome back to Spin cycle, Escape Collective’s News overview.

We have returned after our short stay and are now desperately trying to make up for what we missed.

So Tom Pidcock is no longer joining the License Plate team? Huh. And Wout van Aert might dress up as a giant squirrel on Belgian television? Secure. And Intermarché-Wanty throw a slumber party in full team gear? Apparently.

We better get started.

Meals on very fast wheels 🍕

When Jayco-AlUla’s Christopher Juul-Jensen showed up on our Instagram feeds with a pizza delivery bag, we had to figure out if it was a photo stunt or if he was going to be picking up a few extra shifts this winter.

“I delivered pizza one evening ;D,” he confirmed to us.

“My good friend [owns] the pizzeria. He helps me every year [a] Charity event, so I helped him last night.”

Let’s hope he adopts a more upright posture than usual, otherwise we’ll be worried about all the toppings.

Thibaut Pinot is living his best life: Part 1,478

Social media is often accused of presenting a narrow, sanitized window that only shows the parts of their lives that people want to see, but in the case of professional cyclists, you often find people who exercise way too much and look, well…tired.

So as the off-season approaches, it’s nice to see the pros sit back and relax. We enjoy watching Soudal-Quick Step’s James Knox go on far-flung adventures after the end-of-season races in Asia, and Tom’s Skujiņš showing us everything he eats by gently and kindly squeezing a slice of bread before he puts them in For French toast, put them in a pan with eggs.

But the undisputed king of the permanent off-season, aka retirement, is Thibaut Pinot. Last year we enjoyed his participation in a Champions League football match where he was allowed to drink two beers at the same time, as well as his collaboration with Visma-Lease a Bike boss Richard Plugge for après-ski in the Alps.

This year Pinot is for a not-so-easy climb in Nepal. However, old habits die hard since he still logs everything on his Strava.

Listeners this week Spin cycle The podcast will exclusively hear from roving reporter Chris Marshall-Bell the bombshell news that Richard Plugge will be returning to the Alps again this winter for a ski holiday. We’ll have to wait and see if his drinking buddy Thibaut is back.

💰 Tadej Pogačar has signed a new contract with UAE Team Emirates on Italian paper, keeping him in the team until at least 2030 La Republica He reports that he now receives €8 million per year.

📉 Rapha posted a pre-tax loss of £22.7m in its latest year of financial reporting, the seventh consecutive year of losses for the British brand.

😬 Road cycling and mountain biking have been removed from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games due to cost-cutting measures.

Cycling on TV 📺

Friday, October 25th

The biggest question on the cycling world’s mind last week was whether the person dressed as a giant squirrel in the Belgian version of The Masked Singer is… Wout van Aert!

We’re not necessarily convinced (although we didn’t think Nairo Quintana would dress up as a chameleon for the Colombian version of the show either), but you can do it for yourself this Friday night at 8:40 p.m. local time (2:40 p.m. local time). find out. 40 ET/7:40 BST/05:40 AEDT) on the Belgian TV channel VTM! I just have to call my cable provider to see if they can add it to my package…

No live racing…

🛌 Pillow fight of the week 🛌

We don’t really know what else to add to this video. It’s a group of Intermarché Wanty riders who beat the Belgian bejeezus out of each other with pillows before presumably all jumping under the covers together to swap secrets and whisper about their crushes.

Expect something similar from the Ineos Grenadiers’ upcoming training camp, except the cushions will be filled with bricks. Probably just kidding.

And finally…

Move over the Arctic Race of Norway and your salmon checks, the Japanese Tour de Kyushu is handing out real big fish for their overall ranking!

Emilien Jeannière from TotalEnergies looks enthusiastic, the panel presenter less so, her thousand-yard stare is particularly haunting. But better than the fish are the delicate gloves that Jeannière wears when handling the fish.

We’re gonna rock. Down. To. Addendum Allee ⚡

After enjoying Tim Declercq going faster than a horse, Ben Malone came forward for more cyclist versus horse action.

“Nico Roche also took on a horse in 2015,” he said, attaching the following video. “You bet it will, as it offers the full experience of horse racing commentary.

Unfortunately, Roche was completely blown up by Pat Smullen aboard the Moonbi Creek.

🧺 Send us your laundry pictures

“This is a photo of the 24-hour laundry room in front of Intermarché in Montbron, near my in-laws,” writes Eric Rosoman in the appendix of the laundromat featured today. “They thought I was crazy when I opened the two unused doors and took the photo. Don’t worry, I closed it again before I left. (The middle image is blurry because it was a high speed shoot).”

As always, we’ll accept your lingerie photos (especially those with the doors open so we have Photoshop riders in the tank) as star performers Spin cycle. Either send them via Discord or email me: [email protected]
