Shriners Children’s Hospital is reportedly cutting ties with the hospital PGA Toursays one report.
The Las Vegas Review Journal was the first to break the news Friday afternoon that Shriners would be cutting its ties with the PGA Tour.
Shriners has been the title sponsor for the stop at TPC Summerlin since 2007.
Bob Roller, Shriners vice president of sports, said in a statement, “We have enjoyed 18 great years as host and title sponsor of the Shriners Children’s Open.”
“The opportunity to share our incredible stories of the more than 1.6 million children served by Shriners has always been and will be our primary goal.
“The PGA Tour has been a great partner along this journey and we thank them and the entire Las Vegas/Summerlin community.”
Las Vegas was the site of Tiger Woods’ first professional victory in 1996.
JT Poston was the tournament’s youngest winner, picking up his third Tour victory after holding off Doug Ghim.
The news will of course be a bitter blow for the tour.
In the last two years, several well-known sponsors have withdrawn from their partnerships.
Honda ended its 42-year sponsorship of the Honda Classic in 2023, citing changes in its marketing strategy.
It is now known as “The Classic in the Palm Beaches.”
Wells Fargo, Farmers Insurance and Sanderson Farms have also confirmed they will not be renewing their contracts.
RBC’s contract with both the Heritage and the Canadian Open has also expired.
